My dad wrote a letter to me when I was in Girl Scout Camp. He excitedly told the story of the moon landing on July 20, 1969. He described Neil Armstrong’s first steps on the moon with awe and expressed regret that I had not witnessed them while at my rustic camp. In the letter I wrote back to my dad I excitedly described how a TV was brought into the mess hall where all the campers and counselors gathered together and stayed up late watching the historical event. For years my son and I spent New Year’s Eve in Rockport with dear friends. After a hearty breakfast the next day we would undertake “the enforced march”… a 3 to 5 mile loop around the town. We would stop at the beach to pick up some rounded rocks. Everyone pitched in to carry as many as they could. After a few years and a lot of rocks later, my son and friends used them to create a “Roxaboxen” in the woods in our backyard. All these years later these 2 rocks remain. So many memories with this drawing today!

I’m crazy about these pencils. The bad news: Eberhard Faber stopped making them around 1998, which was (believe it or not) devastating to artists, musicians, and anyone who liked a soft, dark pencil.
