May – Another Month of the Every Day Drawing Challenge – Complete!
As we move from May to June we go from spring to summer, just like that! I started this challenge on a cold New Year’s Day, which seems like such a long time ago. It has been 5 months and 150 drawings, to be exact.
I am looking forward to the Every Day Drawing Challenge in the month of June because the school year is winding down and I will begin to have more free time. I love being an art educator. That said, after a school year of facilitating others in art making, I am very eager to make my own art. Summer is my turn to explore and create with paint and clay, and I can’t wait!
I will continue the Every Day Drawing Challenge throughout the summer as I have committed to the entire year. I will continue to post my drawings on Instagram (monalisaliveshere) and on Facebook: http://on.fb.me/PSoqIu . Won’t you please join me?
Here is a look at the May Every Day Drawing Challenge:

May 2 (#121): Draw a coin or some coins
App: Procreate
I rummaged through the old tea kettle where I keep coins left over from our travels and chose this Haitian gourde (pronounced goud). It is equal to 100 centimes in Haiti. It would take 42 of these to equal one US dollar. I love the words on the tiny ribbon at the bottom: “L’Union Fait La Force” (French) – “Unity is Strength” (English)…
May 3 (122): Draw something where shade is a prominent part of the subject

The sun is so bright in Haiti, shade is often elusive. This drawing is from a photo I took when I was there in 2007…

Graphic interpretation of a photo I took just inside the doorway of a house in Haiti in 2009. I always loved the muted colors in this photo and it was nice to revisit it for the challenge today. Btw- you see a hand wrought broom and drum leaning against the wall…

Here is the new list for June (I love that the first is free choice!):
Thank you! Day by day I am becoming addicted to using the Adonit Jot stylus. The tip is so exacting! I also use a Targas and the Sensu Brush. These are the three I have come to rely on. Best wishes with your drawing!
Can you share what brand of stylus you use. Your drawings are beautiful!
