May – Another Month of the Every Day Drawing Challenge – Complete!
As we move from May to June we go from spring to summer, just like that! I started this challenge on a cold New Year’s Day, which seems like such a long time ago. It has been 5 months and 150 drawings, to be exact.
I am looking forward to the Every Day Drawing Challenge in the month of June because the school year is winding down and I will begin to have more free time. I love being an art educator. That said, after a school year of facilitating others in art making, I am very eager to make my own art. Summer is my turn to explore and create with paint and clay, and I can’t wait!
I will continue the Every Day Drawing Challenge throughout the summer as I have committed to the entire year. I will continue to post my drawings on Instagram (monalisaliveshere) and on Facebook:
http://on.fb.me/PSoqIu . Won’t you please join me?
Here is a look at the May Every Day Drawing Challenge:
May 1 (#120): Draw a flashlight
Little pink flashlight I keep in the kitchen for when we lose power…it’s wicked bright…
May 2 (#121): Draw a coin or some coins
I rummaged through the old tea kettle where I keep coins left over from our travels and chose this Haitian gourde (pronounced goud). It is equal to 100 centimes in Haiti. It would take 42 of these to equal one US dollar. I love the words on the tiny ribbon at the bottom: “L’Union Fait La Force” (French) – “Unity is Strength” (English)…
May 3 (122): Draw something where shade is a prominent part of the subject
The sun is so bright in Haiti, shade is often elusive. This drawing is from a photo I took when I was there in 2007…
May 4 (#123): Draw a bell
The bell at chapel LaHatte, Les Cayes, Haiti…from a photo taken in 2009…⛪
May 5 (#124): Draw something yellow
Typical Haitian home (this one painted yellow) with a typical tamarind tree in the front yard…
May 6 (#125): Draw a bird
Here is Pavone, our oldest male peacock, and one of my favorite birds…
May 7 (#126): Draw a sponge
This is a little glimpse into my clay tools drawer…the sponges are the cut corners of my “glue sponges”: http://monalisaliveshere.wordpress.com/2012/11/27/i-love-the-glue-sponge/…
May 8 (#127): Draw a skyscape App: ProCreate I love summer skies filled with kites…a favorite memory is flying kites from the top floor of a parking garage in San Francisco with my son and my niece, Shannon…
May 9 (#128): Draw a view through a doorway from one room into another
Graphic interpretation of a photo I took just inside the doorway of a house in Haiti in 2009. I always loved the muted colors in this photo and it was nice to revisit it for the challenge today. Btw- you see a hand wrought broom and drum leaning against the wall…
May 10 (#129): Draw people doing something
Boys in a boat… St. Louis de Sud, Haiti 2009
May 11 (#130): Draw some school supplies
Best school supplies ever! “Life is about using the whole box of crayons” or something like that…
May 12 (#131): Draw a spray bottle
I’m using this spray bottle to spray best wishes for a happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there. Take a break from those cleaning spray bottles today…let the kids do the work!
May 13 (#132): Draw a chain
Can you make a dandelion chain? You should try it and give it to someone you love…
May 14 (#133): Draw a peach
So many great songs on the Eat a Peach album by the Allman Brothers…One Way Out is the first that comes to mind…
May 15 (#134): Draw a familiar person, place or thing from a different angle
This is Mr. G from above
May 16 (#135): Draw a salad
80 degree days like today make me want fruit salad… yummers!
May 17 (#136): Draw or paint something that is alive
This is our cat who was my father’s cat. My father named him Wedgwood, his own middle name…
May 18 (#137): Draw something you turn on and off
I can turn on my potter’s wheel now that it is warmer outside. Can’t wait to get all gushy with clay…
May 19 (#138): Draw something soft
How about twin “something softs”? These boys are doubly sweet, too! Great-nephews Jackson and Jacob…
May 20 (139): Draw something with a handle
I love this mug! I use it at school to keep my coffee warm…I seriously love it!
May 21 (#140): Draw an envelope
What do you think you would find in an envelope like this?
May 22 (#141): Draw something with bristles
Choosing what to draw was easy today…
May 23 (#142): Draw something hot
caliente, Caliente, CALIENTE!!!
May 24 (143): Draw an herb or a spice
Basil will soon be growing on my back step while mint grows in the side yard. This is a big planting weekend here in MA…may your thumbs be green and your back be strong…
May 25 (#144): Draw something square
When I think of squares I think of album covers…you know, records?
May 26 (#145): Draw a tree in autumn
So tough to draw this when my mind is fully focused on spring…
May 27 (#146): Draw a favorite food
Had one of these at the ocean today…yummers!
May 28 (#147): Draw something that is made of wood
Mr. G. has had this little wooden guy for a long time…it could be his self portrait…jk…
May 29 (#148): Draw something soothing
The gushiness of paint is always soothing – even on an iPad…
May 30 (#149): Draw a broom
Our big old classroom broom is going to sweep all the clay crumbs and dust from the floor tomorrow…
May 31 (#150): Draw a candle
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that – Martin Luther King Jr.
Here is the new list for June (I love that the first is free choice!):
