Hey Natalie P.!! Woohoo!!

I am so proud to showcase the work of our own Natalie P. today. Natalie has had her scratch art work, “Cat Scratch” selected for the online gallery Celebrating Art, where it has placed in the top ten for her age group (grades 4-6):  http://www.celebratingart.com/46-winnerlist.php?con=Summer%202012
Her art is the fifth one down on the list. Natalie made this drawing over the summer while attending the Nipmuc Art Academy, where she studied with Miss Jess Grady, art teacher at Memorial School. This is a drawing of Natalie’s cat in scratch art.

Here is Natalie’s official bio:
Natalie has had a passion for creating great art ever since she  was a baby who picked up some chunky crayons to color on the living room wall.  She is now an eleven year old who captures her art on paper and canvas, but hasn’t ruled out those walls.  She is planning a mural for her bedroom.  Summer 2012  was her first time entering a Celebrating Art contest.  What an honor to be chosen as a top ten winner!

Natalie loves to create digital art on her computer and paint with watercolors, but her favorite medium is simply sketching with pencil.  She composed “Cat Scratch” as a Scratch Art assignment during July 2012 as a student at Nipmuc Art Academy, a summer program through her local public school.  She also studies weekly with artist Lisa G. Bailey, in Franklin, MA.  She lives in Upton, MA with her parents and two cats.  She is in the sixth grade at Miscoe Hill Middle School in Mendon, MA.

In addition to her art studies, Natalie is a competitive figure skater who plays the violin.  When she is older, she plans to teach skating lessons while she goes to college to study Art.  She dreams of being an animator, when she grows up.
After reading this, it came as no surprise to me that Natalie did such a great job on another scratch art piece done in class this fall. Here is her drawing of a dog, which is included in our Artsonia online gallery ( http://www.artsonia.com/museum/art.asp?id=20634013&exhibit=565070&gallery=y ):
