Rocky Pine Studios in Upton, Massachusetts specializes in handcrafted pottery and original watercolor paintings. Owner Alice Matthews Gentili is a former middle school art teacher who enjoys making colorful, sometimes whimsical tableware and decorative ceramics, and creating realistic yet expressive paintings using her own photographs for reference. Alice enjoys selling her creations by appointment and through on-site Open Studios, at vendor fairs, and markets together with her partner, Dick Gentili. Starting in the late summer of 2024, Rocky Pine Studios is thrilled to be offering small group pottery classes.

At Rocky Pine Studios, we believe that everyone can make art. We strive to design instruction that meets the diverse needs of our participants with small classes where participants are encouraged to explore craft, develop skills, and engage in art making that helps each of them find their own unique artistic voice. 6/5-6/7 – Dad’s Day Valet Tray

In each of these single session clay workshops, adults and children can work with clay together to create handmade valet trays for fathers, stepfathers, grandfathers, sons who are fathers, or whomever you’d like. You’ll choose from a wide selection of imprint stamps to personalize your clay pieces and then select from a variety of colors for me to glaze them for you when dry. Beginners are welcome. You do not need to bring a child to attend. A $30 ticket must be purchased for each participant. Valet Trays will be ready for pick up by Friday, June 13. All classes with at least 4 registrations will run. Register a group of four or more and receive 10% off each ticket when you arrive for the workshop.

5/20 – 5/27 FLOWER POWER

Classes are open to all levels of clay experience, beginners are welcome. Enrollment limited to 8 participants. Classes must have 4 participants to run. Supplies will be provided, so all you need is a willingness to get your hands dirty and a spirit of fun. Parking information and photo and injury waivers will be sent in a confirmation email. Bring a friend or register four people and receive $10 off each ticket at first class meeting.
4/23 – 5/3: Mom’s the Word

Stamp themes include Mother’s Day imagery as well as flowers and spring items. $50 per person including fees.
The Adults with Children class is for adults with children over 4 years old. Adults and children will each create pottery – please purchase a ticket for each participant. Classes are open to all levels of clay experience, beginners are welcome. Enrollment limited to 8 participants. Classes must have 4 participants to run. Supplies will be provided, so all you need is a willingness to get your hands dirty and a spirit of fun. Parking information and photo and injury waivers will be sent in a confirmation email.

4/1 – 4/9 Easter fun
Spring has sprung and the Rocky Pine Studios classroom is open again! Our first class for 2025 is called Easter Fun because we will have fun making small, decorative bowls and dishes then bring them to life by adding rabbits, eggs, chicks, baskets, and other spring-themed imagery. Let’s celebrate the arrival of spring by creating colorful treasures in the company of friends both old and new!
Choose between four time slots of clay workshops each meeting two times, a week apart, for 1.5 hrs each session to create lively and colorful ceramic pieces with ease using my ever-expanding assortment of 3D printed imprint stamps. During the first class we will work with clay to make the pottery. The second class will be for painting your pottery with glaze to add color and detail. This class is open to all levels, no clay experience necessary. Enrollment limited to 8 participants.

‘Tis the season! Whether snow or holidays, let’s celebrate the upcoming season by making ornaments! Join friends old and new while getting your hands dirty with clay making seasonal ornaments for yourself or as gifts!
Choose between four 2-week clay workshops to create ornaments using winter and holiday themed 3D printed imprint stamps. During the first class we will work with clay to build your pottery. Welcome to “Leaf” Your Worries Behind Clay Night(s) for Adults (2 nights, 1 ticket)at Rocky Pine Studios event! Join us for a fun and relaxing evening where you can unwind and get creative with clay. Let go of your stresses and enjoy a night of artistic expression.
Date: Thu, Aug 15, Thu, Aug 22 (2 classes)
Time: 7:00 PM – 8:30PM
Location: 120 Elm St, Upton
“Leaf” your worries behind as you spend an evening creating ceramic pieces of your choice into which you’ll press leaves to create textures. The following week you’ll use glaze techniques to add color and highlight the texture to finish your pieces. This is a two-part class to allow the clay enough time to dry and fire between classes before applying glazes during the second class.
Possible handbuilt projects include small bowls, plates, jewelry and ring holders, decorative plaques, etc. A wide variety of glaze colors will be available for finish work. Pottery will be ready for pick up the following week. Hours will be posted.
